About

Brace yourself for a harrowing journey through the dark and treacherous realm of "Ghouls 'n Ghosts" on the Sega Mega Drive. Developed by Capcom and released in 1989, this classic side-scrolling platformer is the sequel to the equally challenging "Ghosts 'n Goblins."

In this unforgiving adventure, players step into the armour-clad boots of the valiant knight, Sir Arthur, as he embarks on a perilous quest to rescue Princess Prin-Prin from the clutches of the malevolent Lucifer. Armed with an array of weapons and armour upgrades, players must battle hordes of grotesque creatures, navigate treacherous landscapes, and confront formidable bosses.

What sets "Ghouls 'n Ghosts" apart is its punishing difficulty, requiring precision, timing, and strategic mastery to survive the relentless onslaught of enemies. Adding to the challenge is the unique mechanic that forces players to traverse the entire game twice to reach the true ending—a feat not for the faint of heart.

With its atmospheric graphics, haunting soundtrack, and legendary difficulty, "Ghouls 'n Ghosts" on the Sega Mega Drive remains a cult classic among retro gaming enthusiasts. Prepare to face the horrors that await, dodge deadly projectiles, and prove your mettle in a quest that has tested the skills of gamers for decades.

Ok ok rules... first of all, in the interest of fairness, non-riggery and general loveliness, we will play the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis port (which I have never played before) as opposed to the arcade original which i have played to death. apparently the mega drive port does an excellent job and is more or less identical just with a few less colours. Mame can be a bit of a pain to get your head around and we have all already emulated the mega drive so there you go. if I don't win now, this is my excuse. you're welcome.

Rules:

  1. Progress as far as you can within a 5 hour time limit.
  2. Difficulty must be set to... PROFESSIONAL
  3. Deadlocks shall we broken by number of deaths - make sure you log each one!
  4. No practicing
  5. The game has two loops, both of which are required to beat in sequence to count as 1 completion

Outro

It's been a long week 5, with nearly 1.5k deaths across all participants (Q bringing in only 2% of those). I think the overall impression is everyone largely enjoyed the game, a couple of people have vowed their revenge outside of the supervision of the Wheel. Flame also lost his mind.

Thanks all, another congrats to Q for first and honourable mentions to Fusha for getting a podium on first submission, entering the Wheel challenge with style!
