About

Blast off into a high-flying, action-packed adventure with "Rocket Knight Adventures" on the Sega Mega Drive. Released in 1993 and developed by Konami, this classic platformer introduces players to Sparkster, the heroic opossum knight equipped with a powerful rocket pack.

In a whimsical world threatened by an evil empire of pigs, players guide Sparkster through a series of vibrant and challenging levels. Armed with a sword and his trusty rocket pack, Sparkster can soar through the skies, perform dazzling manoeuvres, and engage in intense combat with a variety of enemies and bosses.

What sets "Rocket Knight Adventures" apart is its dynamic gameplay, seamlessly transitioning between traditional side-scrolling platforming, exhilarating rocket-fuelled flight sequences, and epic boss battles. The game's colourful graphics, catchy soundtrack, and responsive controls contribute to an immersive experience that captures the essence of 16-bit gaming.

With its charismatic protagonist, inventive level design, and a perfect balance of action and platforming, "Rocket Knight Adventures" remains a beloved title among Sega Mega Drive enthusiasts. Strap on your rocket pack, embark on a quest to save the kingdom, and relive the excitement of classic platforming adventures in this timeless gem.

Intro

Oh boy, 2d platformers! That's where I'm a Viking!

Tis time to ride the Mega Drive train once again and head back into the 90's (remember Alf? He's back, in pog form!) for a long forgotten Konami gem. You play as Sparkster, a poor opossum some bastard had squeezed into a suit of armour and glued a rocket to his back. He's probably a rude dude with an X-tremely bad attitude...because they all were back then.

So, what are the rules? Well, it's a platformer, so what do you think are the rules? Get as far as you can as fast as you can.

Time: 5 hours Progression: Yes Tiebreakers: Deaths Difficulty: Hard (EU/JP); Easy (US)

Hard mode sounds just as punishing as Lion King was (one life, no continues) so we'll see how that goes for now!

Best of luck, everyone.

UPDATE:

There are some differences in difficulty between the US and EU versions of the game. I'll have a butcher's at it when I get home but it seems like the crazy Yanks decided that "Hard" was too easy, so they added the two extra challenging difficulty settings (otherwise hidden by cheat codes) and name those "Normal" and "Hard". So anyone using the US version should select Easy (as counter-intuitive as that sounds) or, for simplicity's sake, use an EU version.

Outro

Holy forkballs did we need that. After the absolute chicanery that was Alt+F4, we needed a palette cleanser to get us back in the swing of things. Fortunately, the wheel bestowed upon us a delightful 2D romp in the form of Rocket Knight Adventures.

For the first time in...possibly ever, we used the tiebreaker rule! Alas, it was to the detriment of debutant @Full Cup , who just falls behind @Deccyf in the rankings. It was a difficult decision, but as Dec had fewer deaths and the time remaining to potentially progress further, he just pips Cup...to fifth place.

Where you'll both share the same amount of points anyway.

Sadly for me, the wheel gave me this slight reprieve (having owned RKA as a child, before it and my Mega Drive mysteriously disappeared...) just to throw a new challenge with GTA Vice City. After being routinely humbled by my efforts in Alt+F4, I look forward to...well, Sonic basically.

Good luck and well done!
