About

The way of the modern ninja clashes with the forces of darkness in Shinobi for PlayStation 2. Assume the mantle of Hotsuma, a master shinobi warrior of the Oboro Clan trying to uncover the secret behind a cursed sword that consumes its victims from within. Wielding Akujiki—the fabled Blade of Darkness—Hotsuma slices through hoards of demonic foes across eight massive, open-ended 3D environments within Tokyo. Master close-quarters combos mixing kenjutsu swordplay and shuriken throwing with rhythm-based QuickTime finishers unleashing devastating ninpo magic. Chain stealth kills and silent movement with explosive combat across cities, temples, subway tunnels and more for an intense modern ninja action experience. An ambient metal soundtrack by psych-rock legends Faith No More drives the action along with physicist-modelled particle blood effects. Go beyond the shadows as the last shinobi standing against an oppressive occult conspiracy threatening the soul of Tokyo and embrace your fate in Shinobi. Akujiki thirsts for blood...will you provide it?

Intro

@Flamewh33l

Welp, it's the Hack and Slash platformer from the Megadrive brought over to PS2, introducing a whole host of tricky play that is very much like it's Arcade blood brethren it shares the name of. it's hard, it's fast-paced, it's only 8 Stages (two levels per stage, with a boss fight at the end of each level), yet it'll be full of rage, so the filthy casual among you will most likely be the first to reap what they sow and fall to a sheer burst of hatred for this game, it is not forgiving, and your deaths will mean you start from the beginning of the level (thank god it does it per level and not per beginning of the stage). killing shit matters, you cannot skip anything if it is blocked off by a spirit gate, so have fun duking out the stuff.

Time: 5 hours Progress: Far as you can Difficulty: Normal (Hard requires a playthrough already)
Tiebreakers: Deaths are a normal tie-break. Bonus Tiebreak: However I propose as an addition: longest TATE Chain (this is probably tricky to understand: basically this is your highest kill count in one streak as soon as enemies spawn. example: I got 9 kills in one string, this is what I'm asking for). As you kill enemies (denoted top-right by the Kujin-In orbs), they stand like statues for around 8-10 seconds, if you kill them within the allotted time (that mini-timer resets if you kill something quick enough): you get a funky cutscene of you killing the monsters like a badass, this is your "TATE" I am gauging you on. you're able to do it from Stage 1, but it really starts mattering by Stage 2 onwards when the ancestral demon blade starts eating you alive, and how skilled you are in combat will depend on your ability to keep the TATE chain alive (if you're really good on Boss Fights: chaining TATE like this will OHKO them by Stage 2 onwards, so you have incentive to take it).

@Fusha

Opinions about Shinobi proved to be very dividing, with some thinking it's fun and fast-paced, and others thinking «Shitnobi aids why Flame why». In both cases, many hours of entertaining fun have been had, if not for the player, then for their viewers! Many of the game's mechanics were missed or misunderstood by many of us, even those who read the manual. Did you know there was a charge attack? Did you know you could change your spell with the d-pad? Did you know that throwing a kunai immediately after double-jumping throws eight of them at enemies below you, which was very effective against the armoured dogs????

Marcman continues to dominate, beating even Flame, the guy who submitted this game to the Wheel. With Octobot coming a mere third, and with the result Marcman already submitted for the next game, Octobot's reign is all but officially over. Congratulations, Marc! PolarDash took 4th with another impressive performance, landing on the podium in every game he's participated in so far, and I'm personally very happy to see him here and compete against him after lurking in his streams for so long, welcome! Floof was about to give up on the fire boss, but persevered and got his well-deserved fifth place out of pure tenacity! And Cup, who had little trouble with the boss Floof was stuck on, spent so long on the moth boss that the meaning of the word «just» in «the fun has just begun» has been completely lost.
