About

Climb into the cockpit and prepare for intergalactic dogfights in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron for the Nintendo 64. Fly into the midst of galactic conflict from the Rebel perspective across familiar locales from Hoth to Mos Eisley. Select from an array of ships like X-wings, Y-wings, the Millennium Falcon, and more that each handle uniquely. Execute maneuvers like dives, rolls, and banks to outfly TIE fighters in white-knuckle aerial battles. Go it alone in campaign mode across 16 missions of Imperial opposition, or challenge fellow pilots to intense multiplayer dogfights. With John Williams’ epic score soaring behind the action, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron immerses players into the aerial warfare of the legendary film series. Feel the force as you pilot legendary starfighters and carry out heroic assaults against the tyranny of the Empire. Red Squadron, report in! The Rebellion needs you to restore freedom to the galaxy in this N64 classic.

Intro

On Christmas 1996, a horde of Star Wars nerds cried out in joy and could not be silenced. They were experiencing, for the first time ever, a 3D flight simulator on the N64 that allowed them to relive the Battle of Hoth. It was a ground-breaking moment for Sci-Fi fans everywhere.

That game was Shadows of the Empire. It was otherwise fairly pony, but it did have IG-88!

Anyway, Shadows was succeeded by Rogue Squadron a few years later and it was awesome. You fly around in a plethora of space ships and shoot down tie fighters. And maybe, just maybe, you can blow up a Death Star.

Progress: Levels Completed + Medals (you can collect gold, silver or bronze medals for beating special conditions, such as time spent and enemies shot down.)

You accumulate one point for each level completed, plus 1 bonus point for each Bronze Medal, 2 points for each silver and 3 points for each Gold. Unlikely tiebreaker: Deaths I guess. Version: Either N64 or PC versions are fine. The more recent re-release looks better but plays worse than the original Nintendo version, so swings and roundabouts.

Note: You can only use the standard ships to complete the level. Do not use any unlockables, such as the Falcon, the Buick Electra or the Naboo Starfighter (fun fact: this game predates Phantom Menace, meaning gamers could fly the ship before seeing Anakin do it. Another fun fact: Phantom Menace is still the worst Star Wars film (narrowly beating Clones)!

Bonus note: While there are a total of 16 Standard levels, you can unlock 3 bonys levels (Beggar's Canyon, Death Star Trench and Battle for Hoth) by medalling Bronze, Silver and Gold (respectively) in all preceding levels. These DO count to your final points tally!
