Mega Man: The Wily Wars
We've had Sonic and Super Mario, now it's time for the other one! The final franchise in the holy trinity of 2D platformers and notoriously the most difficult, Mega Man will prove to be quite an interesting experience for the Agonisers. Unlike its peers, Mega Man doesn't just jump on his enemies, he fires lemons at them! And when he defeats a robot masters (the level boss) he acquires their weapon, which will prove particularly fatal to one of the other masters.
It's a series that's often representative of the NES - it's fiddly, it's unforgiving, it spawned a shocking amount of rip-offs and an awesome band in The Protomen. It's also a solid series of 8-bit platforming.
So naturally we're playing a compilation on the Mega Drive.
There's a reason for this - Wily Wars contains the first 3 Mega Man games and the reward for completing all three is the bonus stage Wily Tower. It's also just nice to have another Mega Drive game on the wheel, as we all love it so much.
So, what are the rules? Mostly straightforward, but with an important twist.
Progress: Games Completed
Primary Tiebreaker: Robot Masters defeated (including Wily Castle Bosses.)
Secondary tiebreaker: Time
Version: American (for them 60hz)
You can play the games in any order (you don't have to go through MM1 to progress to 2 and then 3) BUT completing a game is a priority. Someone could defeat every single one of Wily's Robots, but if they never beat the good doctor himself, they'll lose a spot to whoever actually completes Mega Man's journey.
You can fight the robot masters in any order but you cannot review which masters are strong against others. Blind runs only.
Finally, to anyone who managed to complete all 3 games: feel free to tackle the Wily Tower. It's fairly easy but it's a neat little addition.
