But seriously now.
For the second time (out of three sub-wheels!) the Blue Blur has raced back into our competition as well as our hearts. For the second time we will be amending the rules ever so slightly.
For the most part, it's the standard fare:
Progress: Level Completion
Primary Tiebreaker: Emeralds collected
Secondary Tiebreaker: Time
And now for our twists. First and foremost: you will now only play as Knuckles. We began our foray into Sonic games with a Knuckles-only run, so it's only fitting that Big Pink gets the spotlight here.
Knuckles' gameplay doesn't change much of the game, outside of taking new and exciting routes, but it does end the game in Sky Sanctuary and with a different final boss. Oooooh - intrigue!
The second new rule is one you'll be more interested in. As the wheel hath taken away from ye, the Council shall giveth unto you...the ability to save. That's right, you must use a save file. The wheel of sightseeing is dead, all hail continuing from the zone you Game Over'd in!
As a consequence of this, your run will end as soon as you beat the final boss meaning if you missed any emeralds you cannot collect them after the fact. Your skill is measured by your accomplishments in your successful run. Allowing you to sweep up emeralds by replaying Angel Island after the game is finished would only benefit those speed running the game.
All versions should be fine, though I recommend not using Sonic Origins as the new soundtrack suuuuucks (update: it also forces you to fight the Sonic 3 final boss in the Launch Base Zone, which will absolutely fuck you up if you're unprepared).
