About

Spelunky Classic is the original version of the popular roguelike platforming game Spelunky, which was released in 2009 for PC. It is known for its randomly generated levels, challenging gameplay, and permadeath feature, in which players must start over from the beginning of the game when their character dies. The game has been praised for its addictive gameplay and has been hailed as a classic of the genre.

Intro

Spelunky Classic

Welcome to one of the earliest examples of the roguelite genre! This nifty little freeware game came out when permadeath was just beginning to get back into fashion, and it's used here with great effect, forcing players to either learn from their mistakes, or get sent back to the beginning of the game over and over again. Will YOU manage to quickly master your whip and plunder the legendary treasure of Olmec??

Version: This one here https://spelunkyworld.com/original.html (Click «Download Spelunky»)
Rules: there are only four zones, and only five progress markers: reaching zone 2, reaching zone 3, reaching zone 4, reaching the final boss, and beating the game. There are 4 levels per zone, and you will be able to tell that you've reached a new zone by the new environment and enemies. Using the shortcut mechanic is not allowed! You must start each run from zone 1.
**
Tiebreaker:** time at the point of reaching furthest progress.

Time limit: 5 hours. There is a tutorial, which you can do without running the timer. After you're done with the tutorial cave, the game throws you right into your first run, so start the timer when that happens!

Tips:
The resolution settings and keymapping can be configured by running config.exe
Be VERY careful around the shopkeepers. No sudden movements! If they become even a little aggravated, you'll get shotgunned in the face.
You can ledge flip over an arrow trap and not get hit by the arrow!
If you've experience with the HD version of Spelunky, don't expect the mechanics to be the same here. There are important and nuanced differences, so don't get caught off-guard!

@Fusha

I don’t believe there are any other runners tonight. Round 21 comes to a conclusion, and the results can be seen attached below. A strong round with 16 submissions – I’m glad so many people enjoyed Spelunky despite all the awkward shop interactions leading to imminent death, and I’m also glad so many people played Spelunky despite not enjoying it at all; it was fun watching you all. A lot of people hadn’t realized that you can scroll the screen down to look what’s below you by holding down (just like in all of our favourite Sanics!), avoiding leaps of faith. And only a few people took advantage of my flipping over arrow traps hint trick!! Though it turns out that if the arrow trap is in a gap of only 2 tiles, the arrow ricochets right back at you anyway, sorry Marcman.

I was hoping to catch up to Floof by winning my own nomination, but it turned out he was also good at Spelunky, taking second and crushing all my hopes; Marcman, who (as far as I know) was the only blind competitor to figure out what the Eye of Udjit actually does, takes third, which means he’s just broken into 200 points. That’s an average of 10 points per submission. . . and to think he was on the bottom of the table in season 2! Garlips is the real gainer of this round, getting 4th and soaring five entire places and getting into the coveted top ten with a bang. And HexTree returns to the Wheel after participating all the way back in season 1; he shows his veteran experience by getting a solid 5th place. We only have 3 more rounds left in the season, including the Forgotten round; and only 5 points separate 9th from 14th. While the top of the table might be settled, the mid-table is all up for grabs. Have fun Residenting all the Evils!
