@Fusha
Round 10: The Ultimate DOOM rules:
Platform: PC, via GZDoom
Levels beaten > Time. Bonus levels do not count for progress. Time limit: 5 hours.
Difficulty: Ultra-Violence
Jumping or crouching not allowed. Autorunning is allowed. Changing brightness/gamma settings to help with dark bits is allowed. Crosshairs are allowed. With the exception of display/scaling/sound/mouse settings and keybinds, all other settings should be left as default. (You can select "Reset to default" in the options if you're not sure what the defaults are.) No cheats, including console commands other than "map *". Saving is only allowed in the beginning of a level (the game will autosave for you anyway). Loading is allowed at any time.
How to get the videogame running:
Get GZDoom ( https://zdoom.org/downloads ), extract into a folder
Download the attached file and put it into the folder you extracted GZDoom into
Run gzdoom.exe, select "The Ultimate DOOM", choose settings as appropriate (you probably want "Widescreen" ticked under Extra Graphic), then press "Play Game!"
To ensure that you don't get an advantage from jumping or crouching, go into options -> customize controls -> action, and unbind "jump", "crouch", and "crouch toggle". (Select them and press backspace twice.) You can enable autorunning in options -> player setup -> always run. You can enable crosshairs in options -> full options menu -> HUD options -> Default crosshair (pick any you like, and you can change its colour/scale too.) To go back to a previous screen in the options menu, press escape.
Note that we will playing with vertical auto-aim, which means your shots will not necessarily go where you aim; they will instead target the closest enemy in the general direction of where you're pointing. This is a consequence of how the game originally controlled, back when we didn't have fancy gadgets like computer mice.
There are 4 episodes in the game, and each episode has 8 levels + 1 bonus level. You may play the bonus levels if you choose to do so, but they will not count towards your progress. It is very much possible to accidentally find a secret exit into a bonus level; these secret exits can be stumbled into on E1M3 (episode 1 map 3), E2M5, E3M6, and E4M2, so you might want to be careful when exploring them. If you're unsure whether you're in a bonus level, you can check the console (` key): if it lists the current level as E1M9, E2M9, E3M9 or E4M9, then it's a bonus level.
Soft lock warning: there is a potential soft lock in level E3M2. If you press a switch in the index finger (the map is a hand) too quickly, you will not be able to leave that area, and will have to reload.
If you find yourself in a situation where you're starting a level with not enough health, you can open the console (` key) and type in "map *". This will restart the level with full health, but all your weapons will be gone and you will have to find them again.
Default controls are:
Move: W A S D
Shoot: Left mouse button
Use/open: E
Run/Walk: Shift
Map: Tab
Weapon select: 1 to 8
