TOMB RAIDER RULES AN ALL THAT
Right, so although these games are on PC the versions on steam are a bit of a pain to get running smoothly and to avoid all of that faff and version differences, it's just easier if we all emulate on PlayStation via Duckstation.
Get the NTSC iso because the PAL one runs at 25 FPS
However, this does mean you can't save anywhere in the level, only when you find a save crystal in the stage and though there are usually multiple per stage, each one is a one time use so bear that in mind.
Rules are get as far as you can in the game as fast as you can. That's it
Your time at first arriving on your furthest stage is what counts
For those who haven't played before, here's a few tips which trip people up:
Tomb Raider is a bit like Prince of Persia, in that your actions are not instant and more pre-meditated. As long as you have the space and time to do the move you planned, it is always consistent. However, if you expect her to instantly react to what you pressed that same frame, you will become frustrated. The game takes place on a grid like system. A running jump needs roughly 1 square of running to perform, which you can get by pressing down on the D-Pad she will jump one square backwards which gives you the 1 square in front of you that you need for your run up.
If you press forwards, then jump, she will do a running jump.
If you press jump and then forwards, she will do a standing jump forwards.
This subtle but significant difference will save you a lot of pain
X is the action button, if you're holding this, you will grab a ledge, let go and she lets go of the ledge
Circle button does a roll which is effectively a 180 turn
Triangle gets your guns out, but you cannot grab ledges when your guns out
You can do the tutorial without starting the timer, and if you haven't played before I would highly highly recommend it. Do it as many times as you like
