About

James Bond 007: Nightfire is a 2002 FPS/driving game based on the popular Bond franchise. Much like the Agent Under Fire before it, the game features a wholly original story instead of following one of the movies' plots - but this time includes Pierce Brosnan's likeness; the current Bond at the time. The player will be flitted between the two play styles - vehicle-based driving missions that involve navigating levels in 3rd person, firing missiles and racing towards objectives, and first person shooting with light stealth elements providing different approaches to fulfilling objectives. The home console versions of the game received positive reviews from critics, Gamespot awarding the game the accolade of "Best Shooter on GameCube".

Intro

Now listen up 007, we’re going to need you to shape up after that absolute shitshow that was Goldeneye. No, this time the mission is codenamed Nightfire, a Brosnan-flavour story that doesn’t follow one of the movies but still has all the Bond gubbins you’d expect: car chases, explosions and bonking ladies with naughty names.

This predominantly FPS game also peppers in delightful driving levels, much like the Agent Under Fire before it, to varying levels of success. You certainly get to be Bond, even if sometimes Bond is letting Jesus take the wheel (and missiles). Do you have what it takes to save the world? No, we didn’t think so either. I guess this one will be struggled, and not stirred.

The bond's Name, James Name.

We all know James Bond. He's that fella who acts like he's very good at being a spy, yet he keeps telling people his fucking name. It's probably because everyone he tells ends up dead, but surely someone's going to piece together enough evidence from the blood and semen he leaves in his wake.

Anyhoo, two seasons ago I was like "let's go GoldenEye 64, but let's force the little bastards to use classic controls." And that proved to be one dick move too far. So this time around we're jumping past spiritual successors and sequels (though not necessarily for long) to reach Nightfire!

There's no horribleness to Nightfire; it's just straight shooter (except when it's a 3rd person shooter, or a driving game, or whatever).

Stop jibbering you handsome fool and tell us the rules

  1. Must use the GameCube version on a Dolphin emulator.
  2. Levels Complete > Time.
  3. Difficulty level should be set to 00 Agent
  4. Your time begins when starting Level 2: The Exchange. The opening level is an on-rails tutorial section that you can take as a freebie/warm-up, we will count it in your Levels Complete count (and no, you don't get to set the difficulty for this level before playing so don't worry about difficulty setting).

That's about it! The struggle comes less from horrible ports or jank physics this time. The question therefore is this: are you going to live up to the suave sophistication of the world's greatest secret agent? Or will you need to call a Bondulance to rescue you from your stronk?

Rules

Scoring:

Levels Complete > Time.

Difficulty level should be set to 00 Agent, you are Secret Service after all, Bond. Your time begins when starting Level 2: The Exchange. The opening level is an on-rails tutorial section that you can take as a freebie/warm-up, we will count it in your Levels Complete count (and no, you don't get to set the difficulty for this level before playing so don't worry about difficulty setting).

@Marcman

Nightfire has now closed! Congrats to our top 10 for the week!

🥇 @Kythias
🥈 @enbyzee
🥉 @DMAC
@Garlips
@Deccyf
@Tater84
@HexTree
@Big Captain
@Mr Matt Internet
@16bit_hyper_turbo

And again, thank you to everyone who took part. This definitely wasn't everyone's cup of tea, whether it was the bullet sponge enemies, FPS on controller, or just not being able to look at ladies' underwear, it seems this game had something for everyone to hate, well, except for Kythias who was this week's only game complete. I know I had a blast watching everyone do their best Bond impression/mockery and the chaos that came with it.

Our top 10 had some real fanny clenchers, with Garlips eking out one last level with seconds to spare, only to be beat by DMAC by 2 minutes. Or Tater barely topping HexTree by 30 seconds! Level 7 seemed to be the biggest roadblock this week with seven of the eighteen competitors getting stonewalled there.

On the season table, Garlips has moved up into a point tie with Carlconiglius, only losing out to tiebreakers. Kythias' jumps into 3rd place with his first submission of the season. Enbyzee and Quantum are completely tied at 4th place, and DMAC and Big Captain are sharing 6th with DMAC having that tiebreaker.

The number of people trapped between two bars has considerably diminished, leaving only Wuggah and Stephen's Rocket trapped in that hell.

For those keeping tabs on the bars, Deccy is currently 2-0 over Tater with a 3 point lead. Looks like Tater's cajoling at the end of last season has lit a fire under the lower bar. Did Deccy print out all of Tater's insults and post them all over his house to keep him focused? Noone can say for sure, but probably.

Next up, we have Mega Bomberman which closes 24 July 2024 23:59. Get to blastin', and remember to submit your run to the bot! Best of luck!
