Sonic the Hedgehog: Genesis is a port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, released for the Game Boy Advance in 2006 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Sonic franchise. This handheld version aims to recreate the classic Sega Genesis gameplay, featuring Sonic's high-speed platforming action across multiple zones. Players control the blue hedgehog as he collects rings, defeats Dr. Robotnik's robotic minions, and races through loop-de-loops to save the world.

Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mega Drive is a landmark title in gaming history. The decision by SEGA of America to not only bundle it with the (sigh) Genesis but to allow peeps who'd bought their console with Altered Beast to return the game and swap it for Sonic proved to be an incredible move. Sales of the console, and thereby the game, skyrocketed. It blew Mario 3 out of water, which everyone agreed was crap by comparison (and, indeed, in general.) One year later, stores in America who'd refused to stock SEGAs wares for fear of Nintendo withdrawing their support were eagerly stocking copies of Sonic 2.

It's a game so good that it's been ported nearly as often as DOOM. From the PC to the Saturn to the GameCube, PS2, Xbox, PC again, PSP aaaaaaaall the way to the Switch. But more importantly it was ported to the Game Boy Advance.

Poorly.

You can ONLY PLAY THE GBA PORT (Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis) and none others.
Progress > Chaos Emeralds > Time. Time limit 5 hours.
You CAN'T continue your emerald collection after beating the game the first time (I don't believe this is possible) NOR can you deliberately travel back to a previous Zone to finish your emerald collection prior to beating the game.
You CAN play in Anniversary mode, which allows use of the spin dash.

"But Octo, can't I just play the original version?"
