Super Mario Bros. 3 is an almost perfect 2D platformer released by Nintendo in 1988. The culmination of the titles that came before it, it's the perfect marriage of tricky platforming precision and breezy fun. In fact, it is regularly included in discussions regarding "The Best Game Of All Time" and is the third-best-selling NES game, with more than 17 million copies sold worldwide. Players control Mario or Luigi, who must save Princess Toadstool and the rulers of 7 different kingdoms from Bowser, that big green fella with the shell. Add in a delightful soundtrack by series veteran Koji Kondo and you have the ingredients for a happy childhood.

Many online will argue the toss about any number of things - one of those many, many things being; “which is the best 2D Mario, is it World or SMB3?” Well, that’s a heavy topic, with lots of different factors coming into play, as well as the subjectivity of the~ it’s SMB3. It’s SMB3.

This is the one, oh baby. Overworld maps! Choosing what levels you want to play! Airships! That memory puzzle game thing... okay they can’t all be winners! It’s time for the Strugglers to fling themselves, full P-Level style, into the many wonderful worlds of the Mushroom Kingdom as they try to yet again stop that Koopa guy… Bowser guy? Koopa. Koopa guy.

Just get as far as you can, as fast as you can. Hell, beat the game if you’ve got it in you!

Scoring:

Furthest Level Complete > Time.

We won’t be counting each individual level that you complete, rather, we will be noting the furthest level in the game that you complete - these are all numbered by the game itself and written on the map. Some important qualifications due to the nature of SMB3 are:

• Unlimited continues: just keep going after a Game Over.
• No Warping allowed: Whistles are banned, using a Lakitu cloud to skip a level is allowed.

Well done, everyone! Once again, we've topped our record for most submissions with 27! Incredible.

All top 10 positions this week were game clears, a lot of classic gamers strutting their stuff.
Wugga came out on top though, swearing that he doesn't actually speedrun the game, but he's certainly close to it. Captain nipped on his heels without the benefit of speedrun strats, he just likes the game a lot! And Kylo came in third. He's a big fan of Mario 3 as well, but about 10 minutes less of a fan than Captain.

RaefGall finished about 7 minutes behind Kylo, keeping their rivalry hot and close like a mosh pit. (You thought I was gonna say something dirty didn't you?)
Quantum and CKJ hit the finish line 3 minutes apart, and just over the 2 hour mark. Doodles rocked his completion midway into his third hour.

Fiona and Carl had the closest times, being only 22 seconds apart on their finishes. Cinaeth didn't give them much room, either, being just 45 seconds behind Carl. Awesome!

Looking at the season's total, enbyzee still tops the chart, leading Captain by 9 points. This lead looks to tighten even further once Fatal Frame is tallied up. After Captain, Wugga and ultimate kissboiGarlips are hot on his heels, trailing by 2 and 3 points respectively. 5th-10th places are also looking very tight, separated by just 6 points.

Extra special congrats to Fiona for no longer being between the bars. In fact, noone is currently between the bars. Whew.

In the head-to-heads, Kylo finally gets one over on Garlips, now trailing 1-4, and 9 points overall. Tater takes another win against Deccy, now 2-4, but leading by a single point.
Fatal Frame ends on Wednesday, so get to snapping, shutterbugs!
