Nightshade (no, not that one) is a sequel to the 2002 PS2 Shinobi game, featuring a female ninja or "Kunoichi" - which is actually the game's name in Japan. Developed by Overworks and published by SEGA in 2003, it's actually the eleventh game in the Shinobi series. As Hibana (and other characters), you are tasked by the Government to eliminate the members of the Nakatomi (no, not that one) Corporation, who have messed up Tokyo with some pretty freaky monstery-roboty-things. Whoopsie, gomen ne sai. It received fairly average reviews for the time and occupies that solid 6-to-7/10 PS2 action brawler territory, snuggled under DMC3 but certainly above Onechanbara.

Intro

The Wheel of Sequels has spoken, and as such we will be struggling through the sequel to Season 3, Week 18's hack-and-slash-em-up, Shinobi - yes, it's Nightshade! Now some who struggled through last season's nomination of Nightshade for NES might twinge a little at that word, but it's okay. Nightshade can do quite a lot turns out, being a cyber-ninja with a sharp blade and an even sharper all-in-one bodysuit.

Tokyo is all messed up, something something clan, something something corporation, and now look here - monsters and robots or sommat. Honestly, we're sure the story is good and not complete bobbins but let's be frank here - it's time to slice and dice, not pen the next Moby Dick. Just point us in the direction of some stuff you would like in pieces, and we'll do the rest. And we'll do it stylishly. You're welcome!

PLEASE NOTE: We have heard reports that the X-Axis is inverted as default, with no way to change this option. You can either keep things as they are, or you are permitted to change your controller settings to swap things back to sane normal. Every Struggler is permitted to play through the Tutorial (available from the Start Menu) regardless, to get to grips with the controls and make sure things are as to your liking - whether it be normal or freakish inverted. You can go ahead and play the whole tutorial once-through, off the clock - just don't take the piss and hone yourself into a super-ninja in the thing.

Rules

Completed Levels > Time.

This time we are playing the NTSC-U version specifically. Select Story Mode, as Hibana, on Normal. That's it, those three things and you should be good to go - have at it with some mechanoid mutants, and remember to wax that bodysuit. There are 13 levels in total (Google promises us), so that's what a full complete takes.
